BHUYEG??I is a fashion design brand established in 2021, under the wing of its fashion designer Gracia Peter, upon graduating in 2020 with a bachelor of arts in fashion design in South Africa. Bhuyeg??i is the Sukuma word for ??the state of being happy??, something one can derive from being able to narrate their own reality through the power of a dress. The brand is focused on creating ready to wear and made to order garments in an effort to be sustainable and cautious on the imprint that fashion inevitably leaves on the environment. The designer utilizes the use of detail and shapes and loves to experiment with fabric, be it reinterpretations of culture and art to subverting the pre-existing notions of fashion, viewing design as both a process of creation and rebirth not only of the garment but the individual and society as well.
